SSC - 6D/5N SARAWAK SECRETS WITH SANTUBONG MANGROVE CRUISE
SIC Departure: Daily
Minimum: 02 paxs
Welcome to the ‘Land of the Hornbill’, also known as the land of the White Rajahs. Our tour package is a comprehensive tour combining urban, rural and natural areas in the state. The tour will introduce you to the highlights in the city as well as provide an opportunity to meet what were once the most feared headhunters in the land. These former Iban headhunters live in remote longhouses. The tour also provides the opportunity to take nature walks in one of the smallest national parks in the country to appreciate its varied forests, jungle streams, waterfalls, secluded beaches and trekking trails. Sarawak entails a journey of discovery into its culture, heritage and history. The Brooke dynasty ruled Sarawak for a hundred years and became notorious as the ‘White Rajahs’; a status accorded within the British Empire. Under the Brookes, the rights and interests of indigenous people were protected. To many people, this was Sarawak’s Golden Age as laws were enacted and the economy improved. Sarawak has more than 40 ethnic groups, most with their own distinctive language, culture and lifestyle. Festivities reveal the unique beliefs and cultural attributes of the each tribe. The Sarawak Cultural Village has been set up to preserve Sarawak's cultural heritage. There are replicas of buildings that represent seven major ethnic groups in Sarawak including longhouses of the Iban, Bidayuh and Orang Ulu, a Melanau tall-house and, a Chinese farm house. Village residents in traditional costumes demonstrate their daily tribal activities such as the processing of sago and the making of handicrafts. Sarawak offers a spectacular range of natural encounters from the UNESCO Heritage World Site of Gunung Mulu National Park, to the arduous climb to the park’s Pinnacles, Semenggoh Orang Utan Sanctuary, the less known and less-visited turtle sanctuary at Satang island to the fauna and flora paradise on the highest peak of Mount Murud. Hong Kong, 2009 Although not as popular as Sabah but this tour truly showed us some of Sarawak’s secret, we really enjoyed the longhouse experience. Australia, 2009 Bako National park deserves to be included as one of UNESCO heritage sites! France, 2009 The Orang Utan sanctuary was truly a highlight. There was a baby with the mother and some medium sized ones coming to feed. Germany, 2009 I love the nature, the long house and the orang utan visit. I highly recommend this trip if you want to see the real Sarawak. Holland, 2009 The people from the longhouse are quiet modern and the hospitality was warm and welcoming. It was like meeting long lost friends! USA, 2009 |
